Cross-examination practice with an AI witness

Examine a witness out loud, in a Crown Court setting. She answers in voice, evades open questions and gets rattled when you close in — and a coach marks every question you ask.

Drills

CPA 1865, ss 4–5
Previous inconsistent statement

Commit the witness, establish the occasion of her police statement, accredit it, then put the passage — in that order.

No leading
Examination-in-chief

Your own witness: bring out every fact with open questions. Lead on anything in dispute and defence counsel objects.

Criminal Justice Act 2003
Objections in chief

The prosecution examines; you rise on leading, hearsay, opinion, bad character and previous consistent statements — in time.

Full cross
R v Price

A whole cross-examination of a prosecution witness from a case file, putting your case as you go.

How a drill works

  1. Read the case file. Evidence-in-chief, the witness statement, the exhibits.
  2. Speak your questions. Your microphone, live transcription; choose whether you may talk over the witness.
  3. Get feedback on every question. Leading or not, one fact or three, the right foundation under the rules of evidence — and the witness's stress rises as you take control.

Questions

Do I need a microphone?

Yes, drills are spoken. Your browser asks for permission when a drill starts; the microphone is used only while a drill is running.

Which rules does it use?

England and Wales: the Criminal Procedure Act 1865 for previous inconsistent statements, the rule against leading in chief, and the Criminal Justice Act 2003 for hearsay and bad character.

Is it useful for SQE2?

It trains the core of courtroom advocacy — controlling a witness, laying foundations, objecting in time. SQE2 advocacy is assessed differently, so use it alongside the SRA's own SQE2 guidance.

Is it free?

Yes, with a free account.
